Enjoy a running tour of the Reservoir area, and a beautiful route that runs through 6 local parks. It's a great run, and a great day. But...As always, this will be a horrible event. Race management will be limited to one person who is lazy, inept, and unconcerned. There will be a starting line, a quick and probably incorrect discussion of the route, and not much else. No aid, no water stops, no porta potties.
T-shirt’s will be available. There will probably be a bag of cheap V-neck white T-shirt’s, probably purchased from Walmart the night before. They will be one size, cheap, and overpriced. The word “marathon” will be written on them in sharpie. For an extra $20, RD will personalize by writing your name on the shirt.
If you still want to run, well, enjoy a fun route.
Starting in Palisades, and running across the Causeway Bridge, a loop through Taco Park (also known at Pelahatchie Recreation Area, where the frisbee golf course is) , then Lakeshore Park, a loop through the Soccer fields, then down Old Fannon to Winner Circle Park, over to the Nature Park and a mile through the woods, down to Hugh Ward, to Spillway, a quick half mile through the Nature Trail, then follow the loop back to Palisades.
FAQ:
What do I get if I win?
- you get to tell your friends you won.
What do I get for second place?
- you can still tell your friends you won. We won’t tell.
What about medals for finishers?
- You will get a finishers medal. Be aware that it will be cheap, hand made, and made from junk. You’ll hate it, and probably be insulted at the lack of quality.
Is this a certified race or a Boston Qualifier?
- no. This race will be so poorly managed and such an unrewarding experience that you should not even post about it on Facebook. Or Strava. Or wherever people post race stuff these days.
Where will this horrible marathon start and finish?
- Palisades subdivision. At the RD's house. 107 Red Oak Ridge, Brandon MS 39047
Are there age group awards?
- only if you count a nice high-five.
What about bad weather?
- Man up. We run in rain or snow or hail, even during sharknados.
Will there be bathrooms available?
- yes, if you count McDonalds and the multiple gas stations you’ll run past.
Why on earth would anyone want to run this marathon?
- because it’s cheap. Registration is 25cents. All proceeds go to charity.
Can I run any other distance?
- yes, run any distance you want, but try to finish around 12-12:30 to enjoy hot pizza and cold beer at the finish line.
Free beer and pizza at finish. Jump in the pool, jump in the hot tub. What a bargain!
Note: this year Jennifer Cecil will be giving hugs to all finishers.
