Agenda
🕑: 09:00 AM - 09:15 AM
Welcome & Icebreaker
Info: We’ll start the class by welcoming everyone and creating a comfortable, positive space for learning and connection. To get to know each other better, we’ll do a quick icebreaker where everyone shares their name, where they’re from, and one word that describes their hair journey. This helps build community, encourages sharing, and sets an open, supportive tone for the class ahead.
🕑: 09:15 AM - 09:25 AM
Braiding Culture & History
Info: Before we dive into technique, we’ll take a moment to explore the deep cultural roots of braiding in the Black community. Braids have been more than just a hairstyle—they’ve been a form of identity, communication, and resilience for centuries. In this segment, we’ll share the history, celebrate its evolution, and invite participants to reflect on their own hair journeys, creating a connection between the braids we wear today and the powerful legacy they represent.
🕑: 09:25 AM - 09:55 AM
Hair Prep & Tools 101
Info: In this section, we’ll go over the essentials of getting your hair ready before you even start braiding. You’ll learn how to properly detangle without causing breakage, the importance of sectioning for neat, even braids, and how to choose the right products for moisture, hold, and shine. We’ll also introduce the key tools every braider should have and show you how to use them effectively.
🕑: 09:55 AM - 10:35 AM
Live Demonstration
Info: Watch the braiding process come to life as we walk you through three essential techniques: the basic cornrow, adding hair, and box braids. We’ll break each step down slowly, showing you how to position your hands, maintain the right tension, and create clean, even sections. You’ll see close-up tips for keeping braids neat, working with different hair textures, and avoiding common mistakes like frizz or loose grip. This is your chance to observe the full process before practicing it yourself, so you can braid with more confidence and precision.
🕑: 10:35 AM - 11:20 AM
Hands-On Practice
Info: Using mannequin heads, you’ll put what you’ve learned into action. We’ll guide you through each step as you practice, helping you refine your grip, parting, and tension. Instructors will move around the room to offer one-on-one feedback, answer questions, and troubleshoot common challenges. This is your time to experiment, make mistakes, and improve—so you leave feeling more confident and ready to braid on your own.
🕑: 11:20 AM - 11:40 AM
Q&A
Info: To wrap up the class, we’ll open the floor for questions so you can get clarity on any techniques, tools, or hair care tips we covered. This is your chance to address challenges you’ve faced while braiding and get personalized guidance. We’ll also invite you to share your biggest takeaway from the day—whether it’s a new skill, a confidence boost, or a deeper connection to braiding culture. By the end, you’ll leave with not only practical knowledge but also encouragement and resources to keep practicing and growing your skills.
🕑: 11:40 AM - 12:00 PM
Closing & Networking
Info: As the class wraps up, take some time to celebrate your progress and connect with fellow participants. This is a relaxed space to exchange contact info, share social media handles, and build a supportive community of braiding enthusiasts. Whether you’re leaving with new skills or new friends, this closing moment is all about encouragement, inspiration, and continuing the journey together.
