Brad needs a liver transplant due to a genetic condition known as Alpha-One Antitripsen Deficiency that has put him in end stage liver failure. Although he is an Army Veteran, as this is not service connected, the VA will not cover the cost of the transplant. Brad ultimately had to quit his job as an Advanced EMT due to his failing health.
