About this Event
Speaker
Stuart moved here with his young family from the Netherlands in 2004, having previously lived in France, Italy and Malaysia. He studied German, Italian and French at university, taught himself Dutch and Spanish, and is now learning the basics of Greek and Ukrainian.
Stuart's language skills have been crucial in a career that has taken him through journalism, translation, international market research and advertising. For the past 25 years he has been working from home as a freelance writer, researcher and media monitor.
Since July 2022 Stuart has also provided free English lesson for Ukrainians in Bradford-on-Avon.
About The Talk
We are a creative town that’s both deeply British and amazingly international - at least 45 different nationalities! Maybe this means that Bradford beats the UK average of 6% who speak at least two languages well?
But in a world where so many speak English, does speaking other languages even matter? Stuart Harris believes it does. In this talk he will explain why, and he will offer some hot tips gleaned from a life of language learning.
About Bradford Talks
Here's a short video giving you some info about the event series.
Bradford Talks is a monthly event with local speakers who share original ideas and provoke new ways of thinking through stories.
Aside from giving a voice to the vast amount of local wisdom, these events are designed to bring the community together and foster deeper connections.
Each event will feature one talk plus a Q&A / discussion session and take place on the fourth Thursday of each month.
