Our next conservation working party on Kenilworth Common will be on Saturday 13th December. We will be bracken bashing and cutting down young trees to maintain some open areas and keep the habitat conditions favourable for slow worms and other wildlife. Please note:
This event is for members only to ensure that all participants are covered by insurance but we welcome new members signing up on the day.
You will need:
Sturdy footwear, weather-appropriate clothing, nettle-proof trousers and thick gardening/work gloves.
Something to eat and drink
Shears and loppers would be useful if you have them as there will be some birch trees and bramble to cut, but all you really need to bring is some gloves.
We will be on site from 10am but you are welcome to join us at any time. We will be there until around 2pm but we may carry on later depending on how we get on.
For those of you who haven't been before the reserve is an old railway siding next to where Kenilworth greenway runs parallel to the Coventry-Leamington railway line (look out for the new fence). If you are travelling by car there is on-street parking on Forge Road and Woodmill Meadow, and a layby with a couple of spaces on Common Lane.
The grid reference for the reserve itself is SP29767303, What3words: friend.only.echo
