The complexities of American masculinity and boyhood come to the stage in a theatrical, vulnerable, and powerful World Premiere dance theater evening entitled Boys Will Be Boys presented by international choreographer Randolph Ward in partnership with the Fantasy Factory Theater with support from the Miami -Dade Cultural Affairs. This unforgettable evening premieres Saturday, July 10th at 8pm, the Sandrell Rivers Theater located at, 6103 N.W. 7th Avenue Miami, Fl 33127 Tickets are $30 (General Admission), $25 (Seniors|Students|Veterans).
Boys Will be Boys is an emotionally charged evening of dance that dissects and investigates the effects of toxic-masculinity on American boyhood. Featuring a multi-disciplined and diverse cast of three dancers, alongside one of Miami’s hottest Drag Artists, CC Glitzer. The evening showcases contemporary dance, tap, dance theater, drag, and vogue dance culture.

In a “call-and-response” military cadence, performers enter the theater space marching and chanting in formation. Themes such as Military indoctrination, fraternity culture, pack mentality, and fear of femininity begin to take shape and set the narrative for the evening. “Man up”, “Boys don’t cry”, and “take it like a man”can be heard and are vocalized by performers.

In his own words, choreographer Randolph Ward states, “this work takes inspiration from my own life as a young black gay male, growing up in Liberty City and studying classical ballet. This work confronts a world dominated by masculine toxicity and explores the question:where is it safe for a man to express, to be gentle, to cry, to be seen? The socialization of boys is one that fosters and normalizes violence. This evening peels back the mask of masculinity”. https://vimeo.com/536954033

The performance runs 1 hour followed by a brief Q&A with Choreographer and Cast.

This show is made possible with support from the Miami-Dade Cultural Affairs , Fantasy Factory Theater, Capital Arts Partnership Program, Sandrell Rivers Theater, National Endowment for the Arts, LCA Performing Arts, Unity Coalition, and MUCE, the Miami Urban Contemporary Experience.
