About this Event
BOYNE SWIM in association with Aura Leisure
Following the huge disappointment of having to cancel the event in 2023 we are excited to return for the 9th year . The swim is now a highly anticipated annual event for both open water swimmers and triathletes. Competitors vie for the beautiful perpetual trophies for overall Senior & Minor Male and Female swimmers, commissioned by Drogheda Port Company and designed by local sculptor Ronan Halpin. Additionally, we offer prize categories for both wetsuit and skins swimmers.
The swim course covers a distance of 2.7 km, starting in Mell Drogheda and finishing at The Boyne Fishermen Boathouse on Marsh Road. Along the route, you'll swim through Drogheda Port, passing under six bridges: The Bridge of Peace, Dominick's Bridge, Haymarket Bridge, St. Mary's Bridge, Hugh de Lacy Bridge, and finally the Viaduct Bridge, with the finish line just southeast of the Viaduct Bridge.
Ray Donagh of the Boyne Swim says, “Drogheda Triathlon Club invite you to take part in this majestic swim in the River Boyne through the historic town of Drogheda and see it like you never saw it before. We are looking forward to launching the event and promoting it to a much wider audience so that they can experience the wonder of open water swimming.”
Aura Leisure’s Chief Executive, Staff and Members are absolutely delighted to be partnering with the organisers of the Boyne Swim, “It is a brilliant event on the Irish Open Water Swimming Calendar and one that people of all levels can take part in. We are hugely passionate about swimming and it is our goal to try and teach as many Irish people how to swim as possible. It’s just another step on our way to helping create a healthier and happier Ireland”.
Please note the following:
- All Registered swimmers will receive race day instructions 5 days before the event
- The cutoff time to complete the swim is 1 hour and 10 minutes.
- If bad weather or unforeseen circumstances affect the scheduled event, we will make every effort to reschedule to a later date. Refunds will only be issued if the event is canceled entirely. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
