About this Event
Louisville has a grand tradition of creating incredible things, having those things grow larger than life, and then finding a way to make sure everyone can enjoy them even after those things are no longer accessible to the masses. Forecastle begat Poorcastle, St. James Art Fair begat the Unfair, and now from the same mixologist who made Pappy Van Winkle available to the masses with the Pappy Jello Shot comes the Bourbon Counterfeit.
The Bourbon Classic is a time honored Louisville tradition, but after speaking to several distilleries priced out by the cost of participation and taking a harder look at the cost of entry for the general public, Meta’s Jeremy Johnson had an idea- why not create an event to celebrate Kentucky’s native spirit that is accessible to anyone? While Johnson is certainly known for his irreverence and unfiltered opinions in regards to the bourbon industry, he says he loves the Bourbon Classic and understands its place. “What I wanted to do was to create an event the same weekend that didn’t compete with the Bourbon Classic but rather complimented it, and gave a similar opportunity to those folks who appreciate great American Whiskey but can’t afford the $359 weekend price tag.” So he moved the decimal place over and the Bourbon Counterfeit was born.
Attendees to the Bourbon Counterfeit can expect a curated bourbon tasting from 15 different distilleries, live jazz from Carly Johnson and Craig Wagner, snacks, first tastes of new offerings and releases from some of Kentucky’s best distilleries, bottle sales, and other surprises- all for $35.90. The event will take place Sunday February 23rd- the day AFTER the Bourbon Classic, so that even Bourbon Classic attendees can be included, from 4-7pm at Meta in Downtown Louisville and will conclude with an after party featuring DJ Matt Anthony, food pop ups, and special cocktails created by the masterminds at Meta, Louisville’s oldest craft cocktail bar, for purchase from 7-2am. “This is an excellent chance for folks from Louisville and beyond to experience the best of what Kentucky has to offer at a price that is inclusive to everyone.” says Johnson. “We hope this event will only grow and grow over the years, strengthening support of Kentucky and America’s native spirit.”
Tickets will go on sale Monday January 20th at 10 am and will be limited to 200 attendees.
