This free event is being hosted by: The Museum of Boulder, Historic Boulder Inc., The Boulder Chamber of Commerce, Boulder Farmers Market, Right Relationship Boulder, The City of Boulder Arts in the Parks Program, Create Boulder, The School of Rock Boulder,
The program will be taking place at the Bandshell located on Canyon and Broadway. The event will coincide with the Boulder Farmers Market on Saturday 6/29/24 from 11am-2pm.
Program details for the event are listed below:
11am: Live music provided by The School of Rock Boulder House Band
11:15am: Speakers to present on the history and evolution of Central Park
Chapter #1: Guest Speaker: Fred Mosqueda: History before it was a park - from 1700 to 1870: Indigenous Tribes in the area
Chapter #2: Guest Speaker: Dan Corson: History of the area from 1870-1903. Histories of Mining/Railroad, settlers, industry, "WIld West" lifestyles, and the founding of CU.
Chapter #3: Guest Speaker: Peter Pollock: Creation of the park and the grand opening: 1903 to 1924
Chapter #4: Guest Speaker: Leonard Segel: Highlights of how the park has been used from its opening to the time that Pearl Street Mall opened in 1977
12pm: Live music provided by The School of Rock Boulder House Band
12:15pm: Live historians and naturalists stationed around the park to further discuss themes of Central Park:

Peter Pollock, FAICP, is an urban and environmental planner based in Boulder, Colorado.
From 2006 to 2018 he managed Western Programs for the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy where he worked on climate resilience, collaborative landscape conservation, scenario planning tools,and peer to peer learning for planning directors.
He worked for almost 25 years for the City of Boulder, Colorado as both a current and long-range planner, and he served as director of the city’s Planning Department from 1999 to 2006.
Pollock began his career as the staff urban planner for the National Renewable Energy Lab in
Golden, Colorado, where he specialized in solar access protection, energy-conserving land use planning, and outreach to local communities.
He received his master’s degree in Landscape Architecture at the University of California at
Berkeley in 1978 and his bachelor’s degree in Environmental Planning at the University of
California at Santa Cruz in 1976. He was a Loeb Fellow at the Harvard University Graduate
School of Design in 1998.

Leonard Segel is the Executive Director of Historic Boulder, Inc., a not-for-profit preservation organization founded in 1972. A Boulder resident since 1990, Leonard holds B.A. and M.S degrees in Architecture from the University of Michigan. Born in Warren, Pennsylvania, he has also lived in New Jersey, Michigan, Denver and New York City. He has served on the Boards of the Modern Architecture Preservation League of Colorado, Historic Boulder Inc., DOCOMOMO Colorado, the Museum of Boulder, and Golden West senior living. He was the co-author of the History, Context and Survey of Modern Architecture in Boulder: 1947 to 1977. Leonard is a licensed architect and has worked in the Denver offices of Kephart, HCM, Pellecchia-Olson and SOM and the Boulder office of DTJ Design. He also has taught architectural design at the College of Environmental Design at the University of Colorado in Boulder.

School of Rock Bio:
The School of Rock Boulder House Band are a small group of students participating in an audition only program that allows them to play events, and showcase and improve their musical talents, performance, and allows them to learn to be a professional in the music industry at a young age. School of Rock Boulder has performed in Boulder and the surrounding communities for 15 years, always showcasing the musical talents of your Boulder communityand teens.
