TWO SHORT FILMS CELEBRATING THE GREAT SALT LAKE: “THE LAST RESORT” + SHORT FILM “WHALES OF THE HIGH DESERT”
WHALES OF THE HIGH DESERT
Whales of the High Desert is a short documentary film that explores the story of James Wickham, an Englishman who is said to have introduced whales to the Great Salt Lake in the 1870s. The film was created by The Good Line and RadioWest in partnership with FRIENDS of Great Salt Lake, and directed by Joseph Adam LeBaron. It features Dr. Lynne McNeill, a folklore professor at Utah State University, as the narrator, who explores the origins of Wickham's tale and explains how paying attention to it today can help ensure the Great Salt Lake's future health. The film's message is about the preservation of the lake.
Directed by Joseph LeBaron
Runtime: 20 mins.

THE LAST RESORT
The Last Resort explores Utah’s Great Salt Lake from a new perspective. The issues plaguing the lake are well documented as of late, however the lake’s mystique and natural beauty are far from understood. Through the lens of adventure and passion, we see what the lake truly means to those who rely on it, and what catastrophes lie ahead should we fail to save it.
Directed by Michael Fleischner
Runtime: 62 mins.
