About this Event
This one-day course is a perfect introduction to forging for the beginner, or for those with some experience looking to learn some new forging techniques. You will learn how to heat up metal to the correct temperature and how to shape it using a hammer and an anvil. Some of the skills you will learn are:
- How to light a forge
- How to tell when the steel is hot enough
- How to use and manage a coke-powered fire
- Tool names an their uses
- How to work safely in the shop
- Proper hammer technique
- How to create a taper
- How to shoulder
- How to use different surfaces of the anvil to make different shapes
This is one day course. Class runs from 9am-5pm.
All materials, safety equipment, coffee and tea will be provided. Lunch is 1 hour long. Lunch is available in town / an indoor lunch area with a microwave and fridge is provided on site if you bring your own food. Please wear closed-toe shoes and long pants.
