Silverpoint Workshop with Caterina LeoneFollow in the footsteps of Jan van Eyck, Leonardo da Vinci, Albrecht Dürer and Raphael: silverpoint is a traditional drawing technique using a silver-pointed instrument on prepared paper.
It creates a fine, indelible line composed of metal fragments.
Drawing with silverpoint is a very different technique to drawing with graphite pencil, it gives the work a luminosity and refinement of line that is unique to this medium. In this four-hour workshop, students will learn the basics of this beautiful technique.
Artist Caterina Leone will demonstrate the different surface and priming options, and students will create a botanical drawing, leaving with a thorough knowledge of how to draw with silver. We will touch on the use of other metals, oxidisation, best working practices, and many more tips and tricks learnt over her years of familiarisation with this ancient technique.
Suitable for all levels of drawing skill from beginner to advanced, though previous botanical drawing experience will be beneficial.
