Botanical art is where science meets wonder a space where art observation and curiosity bloom together. Once used to document medicinal plants this age-old practice has roots in both Asian and Western traditions. Artists and botanists worked side by side to record the intricate beauty of the natural world: a practice that feels more relevant than ever today as we find ourselves yearning to reconnect with the environment we often take for granted. Through botanical art we slow down and rediscover our bond with nature one leaf one petal one careful line at a time.
Workshop Flow:
We’ll begin with a short walk around Mould where participants will explore their surroundings click pictures and make quick notes or sketches of plants trees seedpods and flowers that catch their eye. Back in the workshop space you’ll choose your favourite specimen maybe a fallen leaf a curious fruit or a delicate flower and begin sketching its form and details. The facilitator will guide you through observing closely noticing structure and texture and translating your observations into art. You’ll then choose a medium you enjoy: coloured pencils graphite pen or watercolour and bring your chosen plant to life on paper. Feel free to bring your own stationary! By the end of the session you’ll have not only beautiful artwork but also a renewed sense of connection to the living world around you.
