About this Event
The War of the Worlds: Jeff Wayne’s Musical Audio Play

“The chances of anything coming from Mars are a million to one, he said…”

Immerse yourself in a night of thrilling music and a chilling story as you listen to this classic 1970's audio hit in Adelaide Botanic Garden, after-dark.

First serialized in 1897, The War of the Worlds is a science-fiction novel by H.G.Wells that has never been out of print.

It has gone on to inspire films, radio dramas, albums, comic book adaptations and television series.

Under the cover of darkness in the heart of iconic Adelaide Botanic Garden, you will hear Jeff Wayne's digitally-remastered and re-imagined musical audio only playing, in this one-off Botanica Lumina event.

Bring your beanbags, blankets and pillows and settle in for the night as the last of sunset vanishes and the Garden’s flying foxes set sail across the skies.

Snuggle up, enjoy a drink and snacks from the pop-up bar, and prepared to be thrilled and spooked by the sci-fi soundtrack of generations.

Relive your 1970s and 1980s childhood memories and introduce the teenagers in your life to this audio sci-fi masterpiece!

“The Red W**d began to creep like a slimy red animal across the land, its living scarlet feelers – crawling, crawling!”

On the night from 7.30pm until the end of the interval, explore the Plants, Poison and Pop Culture exhibition in the Santos Museum of Economic Botany.

To see some 'Corpse Flower' plants in their leaf cycle stage, head to the Amazon Waterlily Pavilion. These endangered plants are in a unique display, storing energy ready for a flowering event at some time in the future....

The Botanica Lumina program is sponsored by Major Partner,
