On a snowy morning in January 1931, a black Chevy burned on a lonely Tennessee road. By noon, the body inside was identified by his friends as Lytle Boss Bingham—banker, husband, and Sunday school leader. A death certificate was signed. It was a lie.In “Boss Brooks: A True Story of Fraud, Family and Forgiveness from Tennessee to Texas,” granddaughter Kathy Bingham Turner and journalist Leon Alligood uncover how Bingham—a small-town banker facing ruin—vanished behind a staged wreck and a stolen corpse, then re-emerged in West Texas with a new name and a second life.
What begins as a Southern true-crime mystery unfolds into a family reckoning—a story of secrets, reinvention, and the women who carried the cost for generations.
In this presentation, Turner and Alligood present on how they traced this story through the accounts of family members and those who knew the man. Books will be available for purchase and the authors will be happy to sign copies.
