About this Event
Join the Providence Singers and artistic director Christine Noel for Born of Light, a concert of positive, hopeful, and affirming choral favorites from the 20th and 21st century.
Leonard Bernstein's is as accessible and melodic as his popular works; in fact, he included music written for (but not included in) West Side Story. Sung in Hebrew and performed with harp and percussion.
Benjamin Britten's Ceremony of Carols was originally composed for treble voices and harp. The Providence Singers will perform the SATB arrangment, with harpist Hyungjung Choi accompaning. The 11 movements are based on medieval texts and cover a wide musical and emotional range: festive chant, a lively welcome song, serene carols, and the fast-paced and rhythic "This Little Babe."
Morten Lauriden's Lux Aeterna is celebrated for its lush harmonies and profound emotional depth. The work is structured as a choral cycle with five movement, each drawing from Latin texts that reference light.
Come share an evening of music that celebrates joy, light, and rebirth.
