About Born and Bread
A joyous, funny, hearty meal cooked up with stories from across Brighton.
Amina has just moved to Brighton with her daughter Darya. She’s doing everything she can to settle in, but every time she looks out at the sea it doesn’t quite feel like home.
Then she finds an invitation to the Community Kitchen and, taking a deep-breath, ventures into a world filled with boisterous bakers, magical mixing bowls, and sweet, sour and salty stories.
In 2022, Brighton People’s Theatre had conversations with over 100 local people about food, belonging and what it means to call Brighton ‘home’. Now, they invite you to the Community Kitchen for a joyous, funny, hearty meal cooked up with stories from across the City.
From Bangkok to Bevendean, Whitehawk to Mexico City, the stories paint a picture of the City from a perspective never seen before. A love-letter to the past, a challenge to the future, revealing who we are today.
Written by Jack Parris
Directed by Naomi Alexander and Jack Parris
Performed by a cast of non-professional, local people.
