Borderlands is a sound-and-light illuminated forest production, retelling the classic 1001 Nights, where a tyrant is transformed to the core by the power of a young woman's stories. Telling tales from around the world, Raza is able to challenge the king and convince him away from his path of cruelty. For, in the end, each person has the ability to create their own narrative. Borderlands is centered around a professionally acted radio-style play featuring Aly Perry, James Blanchard and Hollis Easter. The score, composed by Kristin Marchilena, uses cultural source recordings from the Smithsonian collection. Each story is illuminated with illustrations and fine art projected on screens that are tucked in among the trees of the forest.
This 80-minute performance is a magical way to experience the forest at night. Appropriate for all ages, it is best after dark.
As always, Borderlands proceeds support the scholarship fund at Treewild Forest Classroom and Shelburne Farms children’s programming.
