Boosting Mental Health Using Smartphone Photography Our phones are often used for constant consumption, which can negatively impact our mental health. But when we tap into the creative power of our devices, the effect can be entirely different.

During lockdown, local photographer Ginny Koppenhol created online workshops that encouraged people to take daily photos of things they appreciated.

Grounded in neuroscience, this method acts as a “visual gratitude list”, helping us shift our attention towards the positive moments in everyday life.

Before launching her photography business 10 years ago, Ginny worked as an Occupational Therapist within NHS mental health services. She now blends her therapeutic background with her creative expertise to champion the role of regular creative activity in wellbeing and she’s bringing her insights to WILD.

Key Takeaways:

How using your phone creatively can support mental wellbeing.

The science behind “visual gratitude lists” and why they work.
