It's official! The Boone County Historical Society Trustees have announced selections for enshrinement into the Boone County Hall of Fame in 2024! Drum roll, please... Halcyone Perlman (living recipient), the legendary dance educator, Central Bank of Boone County, (business recipient) the oldest bank in Columbia and the third bank to be established in this part of Missouri in 1867 and the third 'national' bank established west of the Mississippi River. The posthumous honor, and only the third couple to ever be selected, Dr. and Mrs. Roland & Ruth (Doby) Wiggins. Dr. Wiggins was a Fulbright Scholar who received his medical degree in Paris, France before returning to Columbia. He was a cardiologist and the first Boone County doctor of color to practice at Boone County Hospital and the University Hospital. His wife, Ruth, was a legendary educator in the Columbia Public Schools. She was a 1927 graduate of Howard University and she and Roland met in 1928 when both were on the faculty at Columbia's Douglass School.
