THURSDAY | DECEMBER 5 | 1 – 3 PM | Norma Kershaw Auditorium & John M. Lee Court | Onsite Book Discussion, Tour & RefreshmentsFor Bowers Members Only: A Book Club Experience
Join us for an exciting adventure in our December book selection, West with Giraffes by Lynda Rutledge. Set in 1938, this novel is based on the true story of two East African giraffes that survived a hurricane while crossing the Atlantic. The story is narrated by 105-year-old Woodrow Wilson Nickel, who looks back on his incredible journey as an 18-year-old, when he drove the giraffes across the country to the San Diego Zoo. Against the backdrop of the Great Depression, Rutledge weaves a heartwarming tale of the powerful bond between humans and animals.
After the discussion, we'll enjoy a short “Animal Safari” docent led tour that highlights some of the animal artwork showcased at Bowers.
Then we will celebrate the season in John M. Lee Court with an array of refreshments that are inspired by the Fantasy: Realms of the Imagination exhibit. The recipes are taken from The Brothers Grimm Cookbook: Recipes inspired by Fairy Tales and Drinking with Wizards, Warriors and Dragons, both available in the museum store. Join us for a magical afternoon.
Free for Bowers Members. RSVP on Bowers.org. Space is limited to 30 Bowers Members per discussion. A confirmation email will be sent to participants prior to the event.
