Join the Winston Salem Chapter of Jack & Jill of America, Inc. and Bookmarks for a family event featuring authors Tameka Fryer Brown and Lamar Giles that empowers youth by encouraging self-expression. The event will take place on February 1st at Reynolds Place Theatre and will include storytime, a tween/teen writing workshop, and an author panel.
Authors Lamar Giles and Tameka Fryer Brown will share stories that reveal the power of telling your story and sharing your voice.
This is a free event with registration required.

About the Authors
Lamar Giles is the critically acclaimed author of Ruin Road; The Getaway, a YALSA Top Ten Best Fiction title and a Quick Pick; Spin, which was a New York Times Editors' Choice and a YALSA Quick Pick; Overturned, which was also a YALSA Quick Pick; Not So Pure and Simple; Fake ID, which was an Edgar Award finalist and a YALSA Quick Pick; and Endangered, which was also an Edgar Award finalist, as well as numerous middle-grade novels and comics. He is the editor of the anthology Fresh Ink. Lamar is a founding member of We Need Diverse Books. He resides in Virginia with his family.
Tameka Fryer Brown is a picture book author who writes to sow seeds of self-love, pride, connectivity, and inclusion in the hearts of children. Her books have won awards like the Charlotte Huck Honor Award, the Charlotte Zolotow Honor Award, and the Jane Addams Children's Book Honor Award. They have also been featured on Best Book lists by NPR, Parents Latina Magazine, the Cooperative Children’s Book Center, New York Public Library, Kirkus, SLJ, Bank Street College, The Little Free Library, and more. Tameka’s picture books include Twelve Dinging Doorbells, Brown Baby Lullaby, That Flag, and All the Greatness in You.
