BOOKING NOW – Scything Workshop

Learn how to cut grass and weeds without the need for noisy, fossil fuel-burning lawnmowers or strimmers. This outdoor workshop, set in the beautiful surroundings of Stanmer Park, offers both theoretical and hands-on training.
Tuition will be provided by Stephan Gehrels (featured in the video!) an experienced scythesman passionate about permaculture and environmental education.
? What you’ll learn:
– The history and theory of scything
– Practical applications in various settings (lawns, fields, meadows, allotments, brambles)
– Selecting and setting up your scythe and snath (handle)
– Blade maintenance and sharpening techniques, including honing and peening
? Who should attend:
– Gardeners, allotment holders, horticulturists
– Anyone aged 16+ with vegetation to cut. No prior knowledge needed
? Learning methods and outcomes:
– Theory sessions under apple trees or a gazebo
– Hands-on guidance and practical demonstrations
– Information pack covering theory and techniques
– By the end, you'll have the skills to competently use a scythe
