This course will run over 4 sessions on Wednesdays 25th September – 16th October 6:30-9:00pm.Join us for a four-session course exploring bookbinding methods, with opportunity to print your own book covers and end pages using monoprinting techniques.
Explore a range of bookbinding techniques using simple glueing and stitching methods, such as pamphlet stitch books, Japanese stab binding and concertina books. The first session will cover monoprinting techniques to create your own prints onto pages which will be used throughout the course as colourful end pages and soft book covers.
What experience do I need?
This course is suitable for complete beginners in bookbinding. Those with some previous experience are also welcome to attend to progress their previous skills and apply some monoprinting techniques to their own book covers too.
What will I make?
You will make a series of your own small notebooks using various traditional bookbinding techniques.
Who is my tutor?
Susie Rumsby is a Printmaking Instructor at Leeds College of Art, where she introduces students to screen print, etching, linocut, monoprint and bookbinding. Before coming to teach art in Leeds, Susie studied printmaking in Portland, Oregon, where she also worked as a master printer’s apprentice, an artists’ assistant, and at Portland Art Museum helping to put on shows of prints and drawings. Susie is a founding committee member of Leeds Print Workshop, and believes in making the fun of printmaking open to as many people as possible.
Do I need to bring anything?
All equipment and materials will be provided. You’re welcome to bring along some of your own papers to use as book covers if you wish, although this isn’t essential.
