Please join us for a special lunch-hour discussion of the recently published book “Legacy Lost: Passing Across the Colorline.” The author, S. Barbara Hilyer, is a descendant of Andrew Franklin Hilyer, the first African American graduate of the University of Minnesota and the first of three generations of University of Minnesota graduates. While the Hilyers once had deep connections to famous mill town families like the Pillsburys and Gales, they would eventually leave the Twin Cities and part with their African American heritage. Until now.
This event is FREE and open to all. Please register if you plan to attend.
The book talk will be followed by a panel discussion featuring S. Barbara Hilyer with Dr. John S. Wright, Professor Emeritus of African American and African Studies, and Erik Moore, University Archivist. Materials from University Archives and Givens Collection will be on display. Complimentary refreshments will be served.
This event is a collaboration of the Givens Collection of African American Literature and Life, the University Archives, and the University of Minnesota Alumni Association.
