Women today still struggle to succeed in power systems that were built by men, for men. In her latest book, She Proclaims: Our Declaration of Independence from a Man’s World , NYT bestselling author and political strategist Jennifer Palmieri calls on women to boldly break from a world in which they are consistently undervalued and grossly underrepresented in positions of power.
What does it mean to be a woman in a man's world?
How can we combat the misogyny and patriarchal thinking that holds so many women back?
Can the current system be salvaged or is it time for a new approach to power?

Palmieri writes of her own realization that - as a woman playing by the old rules in the man’s world – she not only held herself back but propped up the power systems that keep women and all people of color from obtaining power. Trying to follow the white man’s path has turned into a woman’s rut and perpetuates patriarchal thinking.
She wrote She Proclaims as a Declaration of Independence, calling on women to reject the biases, beliefs and behaviors they have internalized that hold them back – like believing themselves to be in competition with other women, discounting the power of their own voices, and expecting to do worse than men. Drawing on lessons from history of the women’s suffrage movement and her own experiences, She Proclaims is an empowering and optimistic playbook that will allow women to chart their own course forward.

The structure of this event will be about 45 minutes of one-on-one conversation with Jennifer Palmieri followed by audience Q&A. We hope to spark authentic thought-provoking discussion about some to the vital issues of the day.

About Jennifer Palmieri:
Jennifer has more than two decades of experience as a political and communications strategist, working in the highest levels of government. She served as White House communications director under President Barack Obama and was head of communications for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign. She was also White House deputy press secretary for President Bill Clinton, national press secretary for the Democratic Party, and national press secretary for the 2004 John Edwards for President campaign.
She is the author of New York TImes bestselling books, Dear Madam President and She Proclaims: Our Declaration of Independence from a Man’s World. Jennifer also hosts the podcast “Just Something About Her” and is a regular on Showtime’s “The Circus”.
As someone who worked on the campaign of the first female Democratic nominee, and been a communications advisor to women in the national spotlight, she has a unique perspective on how media and voters treat women in powerful positions.
