Braund examines a unique collection of manuscript maps of the Horseshoe Bend battleground, created by soldiers in the aftermath of the March 27, 1814, battle. Braund’s study provides biographical details about these amateur cartographers and their maps, which are largely unknown to scholars and the public. Her book reveals American and Creek perspectives of the battle and examines their influence on interpretive efforts today.
Before her retirement in 2020, Dr. Braund served as the Hollifield Professor of Southern History at Auburn University. She earned an M.A. from Auburn University and a Ph.D. from Florida State University. Dr. Braund has authored, co-authored, and edited numerous books on southeastern Native Americans, the Federal Road, and William Bartram.
