Date: July 3rd
Time: 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Location: The Book Nook
Join us at The Book Nook for a special book signing event with Christopher Mele, author of the gripping novel "Goodwill's Secrets."
About the Book:
Raven, a restless teenager, disappears from the small Adirondack village of Goodwill. Local newspaper reporter Alex Provetto is assigned to cover the story of her disappearance. Initially convinced that Raven is a runaway, Alex dismisses the assignment as unimportant. However, as he delves deeper, the seemingly idyllic facade of Goodwill begins to crumble. Each lead he follows entangles him further in a web of danger and deceit, forcing him to question everything he thought he knew about the community. Alex's quest for the truth becomes a fight for his own survival. Will he uncover the secrets of Goodwill before it's too late, or will he become another victim of the village's dark undercurrents? This fast-paced mystery will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Meet the Author:
Christopher Mele worked at The Adirondack Daily Enterprise from 1986 to 1988 and at The Plattsburgh Press-Republican from 1988 to 1992. He currently serves as a deputy editor on the breaking news team at The New York Times, after working in various newsrooms in the Hudson Valley and as executive editor of The Pocono Record in Stroudsburg, Pa.
Drawing on his experiences as a journalist and his time in Saranac Lake and Lake Placid, Mele set his novel in the Adirondacks. He describes Goodwill as a composite of local communities, capturing the essence of Adirondack life. It took 2.5 years, four drafts, and extensive research to bring "Goodwill's Secrets" to life. Mele approached the novel as "fictional realism," aiming for a story deeply grounded in real-world conditions.
Mele often found inspiration while running, to the point where he kept a notebook and pen by the front door to quickly jot down ideas upon returning home.
“Goodwill’s Secrets” is available on Amazon in both paperback and Kindle formats, and at Barnes & Noble. It can also be ordered through independent bookstores.
On June 8, Mele will be at the 2024 Kickass Writers Festival in Saranac Lake, hosted by the Adirondack Center for Writing. He will sell and sign copies of “Goodwill's Secrets” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Harrietstown Town Hall.
