About the Author:Hi, I'm Haley, and I'm probably a lot like you. I work, keep house, and cart kids all to the tune of a million pecking chickens on my phone. There are emails, Facebook messages, TeamSnap, Game Changer, and Remind notifications and, of course, Signup Genius telling me to bring popsicle sticks to the class party next Wednesday.
At some point, my smartphone evolved from a device designed to simplify my life to one that rules it. I jump when my phone pings and feel the sandbagged weight to respond to each notification I receive or risk coming across as rude, disinterested, or aloof. Then there are my children and their phones. They stare into their screens with necks bent and heads down playing Fortnite, making Music.ly's, or watching average people do mundane things on YouTube. As for my family, we needed to make a change.
It's a work in progress, but writing my book, Hung Up, was the first step. The book takes a fresh look at how smartphone addiction is affecting our children and us with candid and personal narrative intended to inspire change.
