The Garden District Book Shop is pleased to announce that renowned attorney and author Dick Harpootlian, best known for his defense of Alex Murdaugh in one of this century’s most notorious trials, will be at the shop on December 19 to discuss and sign copies of his debut book Dig Me a Grave: The Inside Story of the Serial Killer that Seduced the South.
Dig Me a Grave is a haunting look at a prolific, remorseless killer, as well as a provocative exploration of justice and the death penalty. Of the hundreds of M**der cases that noted South Carolina attorney Dick Harpootlian has prosecuted, one in particular haunts him. Donald “Pee Wee” Gaskins was a charismatic mass murderer and a master manipulator who claimed to have killed over 100 people. He is known to have murdered over a dozen, including a toddler and his own teenage niece. Yet it was on Death Row that he pulled off his most audacious M**der, killing fellow inmate Rudolph Tyner, with a military grade explosive.
The author event will begin at 5:00 PM. Harpootlian will be joined in conversation by New York Times bestselling author and political journalist Jonathan Martin. After the two discuss Dig Me a Grave, Harpootlian will personalize copies of his book. The event is free and open to the public, but interested parties are encouraged to RSVP and reserve their book ahead of time on Eventbrite.
