Please join The Morton Museum of Cooke County to celebrate renowned local authors and learn about Gainesville's intricate history. We're hosting a book signing Thursday, March 20th from 4:00-6:30pm! We'll have plenty of food, fun, and fellowship as Jaylene Smith, Deb Cornelius, and Rob Melugin share their latest published novels.Jaylene Smith has lived in Gainesville since 1954 when her father was transferred here to work in the oil industry. Her love of Nancy Drew commenced her passion for mysteries which, combined with her love of travel, led to her pen Airstream-based mystery-themed books. To date she has written 3 mystery suspense novels that are based in small-town Texas. We are excited to offer her 4th, "Blackberry Canyon Murder."
Deb Cornelius is a Dallas-born (and Sherman raised) storyteller who discovered uncanny coincidences in her life regarding two special families. Not ten miles from her birth home, these pioneers were among the founders of Dallas, Texas. The same families were the first Wichita County pioneers where she currently lives. This discovery prompted fascination and research about these two families and westward expansion. Her latest release, "Rivers and Destinies" details the the legacy of the unique families, uncovering a remarkable tale of friendship, love, grit, and bravery. Read Rivers and Destinies to uncover the mystery of how the city of Dallas was named.
Ron Melugin is professor emeritus at North Central Texas College in Gainesville, where he taught from 1965 through 2016. He holds a master of arts degree in history with a minor in government from Texas A&M University–Commerce. He is a member and former chairman of the Cooke County Historical Commission, a division of the Texas Historical Commission. His research has resulted in fifteen Official Texas Historical Markers. He will be signing his latest work, "Tales From The Gainesville Daily Hesperian." His previously published work is Heroes, Scoundrels and Angels: Fairview Cemetery of Gainesville, Texas (The History Press, 2010).
