Join us as we celebrate the Book Launch of Ryan Vine’s The Cave: Poems (Texas Review Press). Zenith Bookstore will be hosting this event at Ursa Minor Brewing (2415 W. Superior St.) on Tuesday, October 14th, at 7 pm. Bring a few friends, grab a beer, and enjoy this special evening with Ryan. He will share from his book, answer questions from the audience, and sign copies of The Cave, which will be available for purchase.
The Cave is the long-awaited second collection of poetry from award-winning poet Ryan Vine, described as “powerful and completely realized,” “profound and enduring,” and “utterly masterful and deeply moving.” The Cave contains haunting meditations on fatherhood, fearless contemplations of place and lineage, clear-eyed examinations of generational trauma, and moves – from narrative to lyric to narrative to lyric – toward a more perfect and complete clarity.
Ryan Vine is the author of To Keep Him Hidden, winner of the Northeastern Minnesota Book Award, and the chapbooks WARD and Distant Engines. He is also a first-generation college student who took his first job at Kentucky Fried Chicken. From there he went to Taco Johns, The Inn on Lake Superior, a driving range, and the production line at Swanstrom Tools. He flat roofed for Miller’s Roofing, served tables at Pizzeria Uno on Boylston Street, and was an editorial assistant at Houghton Mifflin. He picked boxes in a warehouse in Alston, tutored at Emerson College’s writing center, served tables at Old Chicago on Minnesota Ave, and wrote damn fine copy for a now-defunct internet startup. Currently, he is professor of English at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN.
Ryan Vine is a fiscal year 2023 recipient of a Creative Support for Individuals Grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
