About the book:
After leaving her American medical practice in 2011, Jarol Boan returned to her childhood home in Saskatchewan. There she found a healthcare system struggling with preventable chronic diseases and institutional racism. Through her work with patients in urban settings and on reserves, she began learning first-hand about Indigenous perspectives on wellness and healing, leading to a personal journey of enlightenment and reconicliation.
THE MEDICINE CHEST exposes disparities in a country that prides itself on an equitable healthcare system and examines the devastating legacies of colonialism. Boan weaves historical data and professional observations on health care policy into an informative and compassionate narrative while investigating how Canada's health care system is failing those most in need.
