About the Book: In Intersectional Solidarity, Chaya Y. Crowder looks at the question of what prompts people to prioritize issues that affect Black women, and when? In particular, she challenges the notion that racial or gender consciousness alone shape political preferences and instead argues that intersectional group consciousness shapes political behavior. Crowder contends that a combination of race, gender, sexuality, and class-based consciousness influences political behavior, particularly when it comes to issues that affect individuals at the intersection of multiple marginalized identities. Further, she introduces an “intersectional solidarity index” (ISI), informed by work in social psychology, political science, and Black feminist theory. Crowder applies her four-item scale to capture group consciousness at the intersection of race, gender, class and sexuality, but she uses it particularly to explore what groups demonstrate solidarity with Black women, and why.
Chaya Y. Crowder is an Assistant Professor at Loyola Marymount University in the Department of Political Science and International Relations. She received her PhD from the Department of Politics at Princeton University where she also received certificates in African-American Studies and Gender and Sexuality Studies.
Dr. Crowder's research and teaching interests include political behavior, race and ethnicity politics, social media and American politics as well as gender and American politics. She uses an intersectional approach in her research to explore the ways that attention to race, gender and sexuality have differential effects on political behavior.
Christina Greer is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Fordham University, Lincoln Center (Manhattan) campus. Her research and teaching focus on American politics, Black ethnic politics, campaigns and elections, and public opinion. She is the author of How to Build a Democracy: From Fannie Lou Hamer and Barbara Jordan to Stacey Abrams, Black Ethnics: Race, Immigration, and the Pursuit of the American Dream and co-editor of Black Politics in Transition: Immigration, Suburbanization, and Gentrification.
Greer writes a weekly column for The Amsterdam News and is a frequent political commentator on several media outlets. She is the co-host of the New York centered podcast FAQ-NYC.
Refund Policy At Rep Club, we are committed to providing a valuable experience for all attendees. However, we understand sometimes plans change. Below is our refund policy for ticket purchases:
Refund Eligibility Requests for refunds must be made no later than 14 calendar days prior to the event date via Eventbrite only.
- After this deadline, no refunds will be issued, except under extraordinary circumstances (see "Force Majeure" below).
- Refunds will only be issued to the original purchaser via the original method of payment (i.e. Eventbrite).
Non-Refundable Items Processing fees and service charges are non-refundable, unless the event is canceled by the organizer (i.e. Rep Club).
Event Cancellation or Rescheduling
- If the event is canceled by the organizer, a full refund will be issued to all ticket holders, including any fees paid.
- If the event is rescheduled, your ticket will automatically be valid for the new date. If you are unable to attend the rescheduled date, a refund request can be made within 7 calendar days of the rescheduling notice.
No-Show Policy If you do not attend the event and have not contacted us by the refund deadline, unfortunately no refund will be issued.
