Join translators Bruna Dantas Lobato and K.E. Semmel as they read from their debut novels and discuss fiction and translation. Will Vanderhyden, who also writes fiction, will read from his latest translation at Indeed Brewing Company (530 South 2nd Street, Milwaukee). Friday, October 25th, 8:00 p.m. This event will be the only off-site event for the American Literary Translator's Conference.

Bruna Dantas Lobato is a fiction writer and translator. Her translation of The Words That Remain by Stênio Gardel won the 2023 National Book Award for Translated Literature. Other translations have received the English PEN Translates Award and the PEN/Heim Translation Fund Grant and have been longlisted for the International Dublin Literary Award, the PEN Translation Prize, and the Republic of Consciousness Prize. Her debut novel, Blue Light Hours, is forthcoming in October 2024 from Grove Atlantic. Visit her online at brunadantaslobato.com.

K.E. Semmel is a writer and translator. His fiction and nonfiction have appeared in Ontario Review, Lithub, The Writer’s Chronicle, The Southern Review, Washington Post, and elsewhere. His debut novel, The Book of Losman, will be published in October 2024 (SFWP). His translations include novels by, among others, Naja Marie Aidt, Karin Fossum, Simon Fruelund, and Jussi Adler Olsen. Will Vanderhyden is a translator of Spanish-language literature. He has a BA in history from Lawrence University and an MA in Literary Translation from the University of Rochester. His translations have appeared in journals like Granta, Two Lines, The Literary Review, The Scofield, The Arkansas International, Future Tense, and Southwest Review. He has received two translation fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts (2016 and 2023). His translation of The Invented Part by Rodrigo Fresán won the 2018 Best Translated Book Award. His latest translation, The Murmuration by Carlos Labbé, is out now from Open Letter.
