Join engineer and paddler Dr Richard Barnes as he launches his new book Twice in a Blue Moon , telling his story from the beginning of his paddling days, to achieving his dream of paddling solo across the Tasman Sea.
In 2023, Richard paddled his 10m kayak Blue Moon, into the record books with his adventurous epic solo, non stop, unassisted crossing of the Tasman Sea - a journey of 1676km, alone at sea for 67 days .
Richard became the first person in history to achieve this feat and he did it all in his self-designed and hand-built craft, Blue Moon.
Richar Barnes BE PhD FIEAust NER CPeng is an honours graduate from the University of Sydney,and a a senior structural engineer and former NSW President of the Institution of Engineers, Australia, the peak professional organisation for engineers. He used his engineering skills in designing an ocean kayak and then building it in his home garage.
