Be among the first to celebrate the release of ANTIQUE, published by Grand Central / Hachette Publishing, on its official release day. Seth Panitch will discuss his novel, share insights into its creation, and sign copies. This event is perfect for readers who love literary fiction infused with art, magic, and big questions about value, identity, and self-worth.
ANTIQUE is an uplifting, magical story about Grace Schaffer, a once-celebrated antique appraiser whose life has quietly unraveled. After losing her career, her marriage, and her sense of self, Grace joins a small traveling antiques show—where she encounters a mysterious, timeworn necklace that seems to grant her an uncanny power.
Suddenly able to predict auction prices far beyond market value, Grace finds herself propelled back into the spotlight, drawing admiration, skepticism, and danger in equal measure. As the necklace’s influence deepens, she is swept into a race to uncover a lost masterpiece before it vanishes forever.
At its heart, ANTIQUE is a story about art, love, ambition, and the most difficult appraisal of all: discovering one’s own worth. It’s a novel that invites readers to believe in the quiet magic within us—if we dare to trust it.
Seth Panitch is a novelist, playwright, filmmaker, and Professor of Theatre, as well as the Director of the MFA Acting Program at the University of Alabama. His plays—including Dammit, Shakespeare!, Hell: Paradise Found, Alcestis Ascending, and Separate and Equal—have been produced Off-Broadway, and his films Service to Man and The Coming are distributed internationally.
He is a proud member of the Author’s Guild, the Dramatists Guild of America, the Society of Directors and Choreographers, and—according to him—the Illuminati (though he has, so far, declined the tattoo). He lives with his wife Laura and their dog Moses, who remains unimpressed by literary accomplishments but enthusiastic about jungle-gym activities.
Come celebrate a remarkable debut novel, support an exciting new voice in fiction, and enjoy an evening of conversation at Ernest & Hadley Booksellers!
