Join us for the launch of the first “Secret Kingdoms” book, with help from “La Libreria” we have created a celebration of our barrio.
Once market gardens outside the city wall, this small part of Madrid has been at the heart of Spanish Literature for over 400 years. From Cervantes to Ben Lerner this barrio has left its mark. The parallel Spanish and English texts will be of interest to anyone wanting to improve their language skills while deepening their knowledge.
Author Felicity Hughes is a local writer and tour guide. Her work has appeared in publications including The Guardian, Al Jazeera, the Financial Times and Time Out. She writes for Lonely Planet and is the author of several of their new guides. Her popular blog at www.themakingofmadrid.com was the inspiration for this guide.
Illustrator Nathan Brenville of www.brenville.com brings Felicity´s pen portraits to life and has also produced a fantastic illustrated map. Publisher David Price opened “Secret Kingdoms” English Bookstore in June 2022.
The evening will consist of a “chat show” type conversation between David and Felicity about the book, including readings, a Q&A and a book-signing. Drinks and snacks will be served. Whilst the event is free, places are limited. Please reserve, and if you cannot make it please "unreserve", so that others can attend in your place.
