In The Extraordinary Story of an Ordinary Man, I realised I was writing not only Dad's story but also that of the many other arrivals from India and Pakistan to England, in the early 1950s. Their story is Extraordinary in that they arrived with next to nothing , carrying their bedding, known as a Bistra, and a small suitcase, the size of which today, would be considered an overnight bag. None of these early arrivals came with the intention of staying, to earn money and return to their homes and families was the plan. This changed and that is why, each one of us, is here today. We must never forget their journeys, as we really are now hearing the last voices of these early pioneers, and more importantly, we must remember we are all connected.

Regardless of whether you know me or my family you are invited to celebrate and share 70 years since Dad arrived in Derby.
