About this Event
This Book Folding workshop is about enjoying the act of making—no patterns, templates, or prior experience needed. Step-by-step instruction will guide you in creating a unique piece that reflects your personal style. Book Folding is a mindful, eco-friendly way to repurpose books while turning them into striking artworks. All supplies are included. You are also welcome to bring in books that you want to transform.
AJ Grossman is a painter and quilter who explores the dynamic interplay of line, movement, and rhythm. A graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology, she began her career in fashion design and art direction before shifting her focus to fine art and textiles. Her process embraces experimentation, often incorporating found or repurposed materials to give them new life and meaning. Grossman works across mediums, from encaustic painting to quilting, creating pieces that invite viewers to see familiar objects and patterns in unexpected ways. Beyond her studio, she is deeply engaged in community arts and education, teaching workshops and leading collaborative projects that connect creativity with shared experience.
The Things Lab is supported in part by Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners.
