Celebrated novelist Bernice L. McFadden, born and raised in Brooklyn, launches her memoir Firstborn Girls on the Greenlight stage! Twenty-five years after her fiction debut, McFadden turns the lens toward her own life, tracing her remarkable journey—from a devastating childhood accident to the publication of her award-winning first novel, Sugar. A powerful memoir of many threads, Firstborn Girls interweaves McFadden's personal journey with her family’s history, exploring themes of inherited trauma, family secrets, and the enduring bonds of love between mothers and daughters. McFadden will be reading from the book before discussing it further with fellow author Donna Hill (Confessions In B-Flat and I Am Ayah—The Way Home). The discussion will be followed by an audience Q&A and signing.
