Join Nelson-Atkins staff members to discuss Katherine Govier’s novel The Printmaker’s Daughter, 2011. In support of the museum’s featured exhibition Hokusai: Inspiration and Influence from the Collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (September 21, 2024- January 5, 2025), this free book discussion will introduce you to the little-known story of Hokusai’s artist daughter, Oei. Govier brings their complex relationship and colorful 19th-century Edo (Tokyo) world to life through extensive research skillfully woven into a compelling work of historical fiction. Oei, a dedicated and prolific artist herself, is long-rumored to have had a hand in the iconic master’s work--let’s discuss the possibilities!
