📚 Book Launch Event: Beyond the Mountains: Social and Political Imaginaries in Gilgit-Baltistan 📚

Join us for the launch of Beyond the Mountains: Social and Political Imaginaries in Gilgit-Baltistan, published by @raachipress, an independent press based in Gilgit-Baltistan and Asia, dedicated to centering perspectives from the margins.

This special event will feature Dr. Nosheen Ali, co-editor of Beyond the Mountains, in conversation with Madhuri Sastry, Culture Editor at The Polis Project.

Dr. Nosheen Ali is a sociologist, educator, and environmental researcher from Karachi. She has taught as a Visiting Associate Professor at the Gallatin School, New York University, and is the co-founder of Raachi Press. Her work focuses on the intersections of culture, environment, and social justice, particularly in marginalized border regions.

Madhuri Sastry is a Culture Editor at The Polis Project, and co-host of It’s Not You, It’s the Media podcast.

Beyond the Mountains brings together the voices of sixteen researchers, offering critical insights into the land, life, and social thought of Gilgit-Baltistan—a region rich in history and culture but long marginalized in mainstream discourse. Edited by Dr. Nosheen Ali and Aziz Ali Dad, this book is a bold effort to decolonize publishing, amplify Indigenous perspectives, and challenge the erasure of this disputed borderland.

The event will explore the cultural and political lifeworld of Gilgit-Baltistan, the importance of creating indigenous research platforms, and the broader significance of reimagining how we understand borderlands and collective resistance.
