This book club is now into its 3rd edition! (We don’t say “3rd year” because our first edition was only a month long.😆)

This time we’ll be working our way through some
⭐️⭐️“IMPACTFUL FICTION”. ⭐️⭐️

I spent months polling kids and homeschool parents, reading articles, and scanning my own childhood memories, ultimately piecing together 18 books for us to explore together this school year.

Here’s the book schedule:
(It is subject to change, but that is unlikely)

🔵“The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe” by C.S. Lewis
🔴 “The Horse And His Boy” by C.S. Lewis

SEPTEMBER 2024
🔵“Prince Caspian” by C.S. Lewis
🔴 “The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader” by C.S. Lewis

OCTOBER 2024
🔵“The Silver Chair” by C.S. Lewis
🔴 “The Magician’s Nephew” by C.S. Lewis

NOVEMBER 2024
🔵 “The Last Battle” by C.S. Lewis

DECEMBER 2024
🔴 “Treasure Island” by Robert Louis Stevenson

JANUARY 2025
🔵 “The Wild Robot” by Peter Brown

FEBRUARY 2025
🔴 ”The Secret Garden” by Frances Hodgson Burnett
🔵 “The Phantom Tollbooth” by Norton Juster

🔵 “Stonewords: A Ghost Story” by Pam Conrad
🔴 “Because Of Winn-Dixie” by Kate DiCamillo

Book Club is for all ages but would likely be best for ages 7 through 13. If your child can read these books, tolerate a class setting, and follow directions then this is the class for them!

Each week we’ll read a chapter or three together, sip tea, and eat snacks. Depending on the week we’ll do a game or project. There will be group discussion every week.

We’ll talk about major literary devices, the decisions characters make, vocabulary, and more.

Just about every week parents will get a vocabulary list (posted in the event) to go over with their kids, if you choose. In that same place you’ll also see the assigned reading that’s to be done before the next Book Club meeting. (The reading will never be over 100 pages/week by my count. Some books have larger print and/or more pictures, so your copy may be a little different, but know that that was my goal!)

When time permits we will also watch the movies that match the books and discuss their differences & similarities.

If you’re struggling through English Lit. with your kids, this is a great stand-in. Book Clubs can be used for this subject on evaluations.

Brief details:
💚In the Oviedo YMCA’s conference room. (No membership required). Our backup location, which we use when the Y is using our space for camps, is The Donut Patch on Broadway in Oviedo.
💙Just about every non-holiday Thursday of the school year (40 in all), 9:30 a.m. until around 10:30, unless it’s a movie day.
🤎The specific dates can be found on the event banner picture as well as within the event.
♥️This is not a drop off program. Parents wait in the nearby lobby. (FREE WI-FI!) If you are a YMCA member you can use the childcare area for your younger kids during Book Club.
🧡We have light snacks each week, so let me know of any severe allergies.
‼️Bring a tea cup or coffee mug each week! We try out a new mystery tea every time we meet!
💜Students must have their own copy of the book in class each week. Digital copies work too.
💎The cost is $30 per child monthly if there are 4 or 5 meetings that month. The months of November and December are abbreviated for the holidays. November’s cost is $25, and December’s is $20.
💚Payment can be sent through PayPal to [email protected]. I’ll send you an email confirmation as a receipt. Cash is also accepted, but it can be harder to get to me ahead of time.

‼️‼️VERY IMPORTANT‼️‼️
Full payment MUST be made ONE WEEK before the session starts. This is because I have to rent our space and won’t rent the space if we don’t have students sign up.

🧡Students are not required to attend every week in a session, but the cost remains the same even if only one week is attended. (The goal is for students to come to all 40 weeks of class, but I know that’s not always possible).

Please let me know if you’d like any details I’ve missed putting in!

NOTE: Off for Thanksgiving and the 2nd half of December! Check each event’s graphic or details to find exact dates.

Lastly, the 2023-24 Book Club was an absolute blast! Your kids & I had so much fun and really enjoyed the books we got to read.

⚡️⚡️I AM SO LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS NEXT EDITION OF BOOK CLUB!⚡️⚡️
