About this Event
This Book Club is focused on more advanced spiritual reading such as ancient scriptures and academic texts. Over the course of 13 weeks, we will read the entire Bhagavad Gita with commentary by Sri Swami Satchidananda to gain a deeper understanding of this core Hindu text. The Bhagavad Gita is a must-read for most Yoga Teacher Trainings as it is a very early text which explains the different types of Yoga and how to practice Yoga.
The story goes that the warrior king Arjuna is tasked with going into battle, but he feels that all killing is wrong and is unable to go through with it. Krishna, an avatar of Lord Vishnu, counsels him. This translation includes commentary by Swami Satchindananda who graciously provides Westerners with the necessary cultural context to understand the text.
We will be treating this as a study-text, not necessarily as our guide-book. As with everything open discussion and questioning is encouraged!
