Instructor Donna Bearden
The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron is a book about “unlocking your capacity for creativity, whether in art, work, or life.” It was first published in 1992 and has “inspired millions to overcome the limiting beliefs and fears that can inhibit the creative process.” I went through the book with a group in 2007 and can honestly say it opened me to possibilities I hadn’t even considered and helped me develop habits that continue to this day – almost 20 years later!
This book is for anyone who wants to be more creative: writers, hobbyists, jewelers, painters, photographers, cooks, gardeners, etc. If you love creativity, or long for it, you will enjoy this. At its core, it teaches us how to LET ourselves be creative.
The book is divided into 12 chapters with the intention of spending one week on each lesson. Every week, we will meet to discuss the lesson, share insights, and talk about how our “creative tasks” for the week went. On week 13, we will close the class with a creative art project.
The class meets on Wednesdays from 1-4 p.m. and will last 13 weeks. (There will be one exception. The final class will be on Friday, May 22, rather than Wednesday. I can’t miss my grandson’s graduation!) If you have to miss a week, we will provide a summary of key points.
You will need to purchase your own copy of the book before the class begins. While it is available in audio and as an eBook, I highly recommend paperback so you can mark it up, underline things that jump out at you, and add comments – your own and your classmates. You will also need a journal and pen.
Come to have fun and open yourself up to new ways of creativity!
Ages 13 and up.
