Theme Travelers, an exciting 6-week nonfiction book club where 3rd-6th graders embark on a journey through fascinating topics of their choice! From insects and oceans to famous sports players and beyond, students will work together in mixed-age groups to explore the subjects they’re most passionate about.
Weekly Journey:
Week 1: Charting Our Course We’ll start with an introduction to how book clubs work and dive into a brainstorming session to discover everyone’s interests. After mapping out our ideas, we’ll form smaller book clubs based on common themes and select books that align with each group’s curiosity.
Week 2: Mapping Out Our Adventure In their theme-based book clubs, students will plan their reading on a calendar and assign book club roles (like Discussion Leader or Researcher) to each member, ensuring that everyone contributes to the group’s learning journey.
Weeks 3-5: Guiding the Journey Each group will meet with the instructor for individualized support and feedback. These meetings will help students navigate their topics, encourage critical thinking, and foster collaboration as they explore nonfiction in new and engaging ways.
Week 6: Grand Celebration & Sharing To wrap up our adventure, we’ll have a fun celebration where each group presents what they’ve learned. Whether it’s through a creative project, a group presentation, or visual display, everyone will get the chance to share their discoveries!
In Theme Travelers, students will develop a love for nonfiction reading while working together to explore the world around them—one theme at a time!
