About this Event

Join Church World Service - New York for an engaging book club discussion focusing on immigration narratives and raising awareness. As a refugee resettlement nonprofit, we're dedicated to providing vital social services without promoting any religious doctrine.

We want attendees to get involved in networking, friendship, and impactful discussions on immigration. Connect, learn, and discover how to support migrants in your community.

We'll delve into 'A Map Is Only One Story,' a compelling collection of twenty authors sharing their experiences as migrants navigating complex immigration laws and rhetoric.
You can find it at your local library or here. It's also available on Spotify Premium!

We'll cover these three specific stories during this session:

  1. "Why We Crossed the Border in El Paso" by Victoria Blanca explores the motivations and challenges faced by individuals and families seeking to cross the border, shedding light on the complexities of migration and the pursuit of a better life.
  2. "Undocumented Lovers in America" by Krystal A. Sital delves into the personal journey of undocumented immigrants navigating love, family, and identity in the United States, offering a poignant reflection on the human experience within the immigration system.
  3. "Say It with Noodles" by Shing Yin Khor tells the story of cultural adaptation and resilience through the lens of food, highlighting the power of culinary traditions in connecting individuals across borders and generations.

Don't worry if you haven't all read the stories; we'll provide summaries and thought-provoking questions to guide our conversation. Let's come together to learn, share, and support each other on this important journey.
