You're invited to Book Club at the NFSA, a new series of screenings and discussions exploring how culturally significant books have been adapted and reimagined as films. An unnamed narrator suffering from insomnia establishes an underground fight club with the mysterious Tyler Durden in Chuck Palahniuk’s 1996 satirical novel. The first rule? You don’t talk about fight club.
Brad Pitt and Edward Norton thrill in David Fincher’s iconic film adaptation, which also stars Helena Bonham Carter. Now a cult classic, Fight Club confronts loneliness, violence, purpose and masculinity in the modern world with edgy violence and dark humour.
The screening will be followed by a discussion of the film and the novel with special guest Michael Winkler, in conversation with Canberra Writers Festival Artistic Director Beejay Silcox.
