Book & Board is part book club and part potluck, with monthly meetings to discuss books and share recipes.B&B meets the last Sunday of every month (pending holidays) in the Grindhaus screening room.
Meeting: December 21, 5pm
Book: Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead by Olga Tokarczuk
Potluck: Eastern European
NOTE: At the December meeting we’ll be holding a white elephant book swap, or Jolabokaflod ("Yule book flood"). Jolabokaflod is the Icelandic tradition of exchanging books as gifts, then curling up with steaming cups of hot chocolate in front of a crackling fire, and reading long into the subarctic night. This tradition was popularized during WWII, when foreign imports were restricted and other gift items were in short supply due to rationing. Paper was one of the few commodities not rationed, making book printing accessible and affordable. For our Jolabokaflod the books don’t need to be new. Previously loved is just fine. If you would like to participate, wrap up a book and bring it! Let’s keep the price point minimal - let’s say under $10.
The meetings are open to the public, but space is limited! If you are new, Please RSVP by emailing Lisa at [email protected]. Once you attend a meeting you'll receive an invite to our group on Bookclubs.com📚
